If your childhood is around 90’s, then the name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles must have been familiar to you. The adventure of the four teenage mutant turtles would be entertaining for most kids back then. Following the success of the cartoon series, Nickelodeon Movies tries to visualize it in big screen using state-of-the-art visual effects. The initiative seems to be serious one since the production company has released 2 (two) series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Furthermore, in the recent episode, which is entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, a number of famous bad guys in the cartoon, has been introduced, such as Bebop and Rocksteady.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is started by Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry), a famous scientist for some people, is trying to help Shredder (Brian Tee) escape from his transfer. In doing so, he is assisted by the Foot Clan, a ninjutsu clan led by The Shredder. The mission is accomplished by teleporting Shredder to Commander Krang’s headquarter in another dimension. Krang (Brad Garret) tells Shredder if he manages to find the rest of tools required to open the gate to another dimension, then he will be granted a share of power on Earth. Leonardo (Pete Ploszek), Donatello (Jeremy Howard), Raphael (Alan Ritchson) and Michaelangelo (Noel Fisher) try to find out more about the teleportation. Though they manage to defeat the Foot Clan ninjas after being informed by April O’Neil (Megan Fox), what Baxter really does is beyond their imagination. On the other hand, Shredder, who shares his problem with Krang, is given a liquid which is able to transform into mutant of unprecedented power in order to overcome the Leonardo and his gang.
Knowing that Shredder manages to escape during the transfer, April comes into Baxter headquarter and discovers that the liquid is used to transform Bebop and Rocksteady into mutants. After stealing the liquid, she is after by the Foot Clan and then helped by Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), the police officer who is responsible for the transfer. The movie is then continued by Shredder’s mission to get the rest of the tools required and the turtles effort to stop it by any means. And, thanks to Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett). Their mission will not accomplished without his help, especially in getting video showing that Baxter is friend to the Shredder.
Different from the previous series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows presents more introduction to the audience about the movie and its characters, which is the sign of the more serious movie in the future, such as the appearance of Bebop and Rocksteady. In this movie, audience encounters sort of crisis of existence among the turtles, especially when Donatello discovers the idea that the liquid might be able to change them into human. At the same time, Master Splinter (Tony Shalhoub/Danny Woodburn) has more teaching to provide to Leonardo on how to become a leader and the meaning of brotherhood. The turtles’ presence among New York police officer is also started to be recognized in this movie. The rest is quite similar for the turtles’ performance: childish, talkative, smart, and serious. Some might be annoyed by the turtles since this movie provides different kind of superhero. Audience will not find a calm, cool, handsome and mentally stable superhero in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. And that what makes this movie special and worth to see.
